The last, eighth meeting-discussion of the “Summer Book Club 2025” program took place
The “Summer Book Club 2025” program is coming to an end. The penultimate of the program, the seventh meeting-discussion, was held, which was conducted by ARCA program coordinator Styopa Asryan.
At this meeting, the participants discussed the ninth, tenth, and eleventh chapters of the book, which dealt with the topics “Madness and Modernism”, “What to Do About Crime”, and “Why Businessmen Need Philosophy”.At the beginning of the discussion, the participants touched on Peikoff’s comparisons of schizophrenia and modern art. Then, the author spoke about the five common personality traits of a criminal (impulsiveness, anti-
intellectuality, defiance of authority, amorality, and feeling of his own victimization). The participants noted how much they agreed with the author, and gave examples.
The meeting continued with active discussions on the relationship between businessmen and philosophy. According to Peikoff, the biggest victims of the current attitude are businessmen, who are essentially selfish. The attendees shared their views on the role of philosophy in today’s business and discussed whether there is a place for altruism in business.
The Summer Book Club is coming to an end. The final meeting-discussion will take place soon, at the end of which the program graduates will be awarded their graduation certificates.The participants are looking forward to ARCA’s upcoming programs…
