The educational and philosophical program “John Galt School 2024” continues.
Within the framework of the third course-discussion of the program, the speaker Martin Hooss presented the topic “Objectivist Ethics” to the participants.
Before analyzing Objectivist ethics, the basic term, what is “ethics” is defined.
It was submitted that first of all it is necessary to study the role and function of values before discussing morality. It was distinguished what the values are and whether the values are objective or subjective.
It was specifically noted that Rand strongly rejects traditional subjective approaches to ethics and values, in her opinion, should be based on an objective standard of value, which should be based on a metaphysics.
At the end of the speech, three central Objectivist values were mentioned: Reason, Purpose, Self-esteem and seven cardinal virtues: Rationality, Independence, Integrity, Honesty, Justice, Productiveness, Pride.
