“Spring Book Club 2026” program was launched
On April 19, the “Spring Book Club 2026” program was launched at the Ara Sargsyan and Hakob Kojoyan House-Museum. Within the framework of the program, participants will read and discuss Ayn Rand’s “The Virtue of Selfishness.”
Gor Badalyan, CEO of ARCA, delivered a welcoming speech, wishing the participants a good course and productive discussions.
At the beginning of the discussion, the participants got to know each other and mentioned one of the most important principles or values in their lives. Then, Tigran Martirosyan, the moderator of the book club, presented the main provisions of Ayn Rand and the philosophy of Objectivism in general terms.
In the second part of the meeting, the participants moved on to the actual discussion of the book, which concerned the first chapter. Questions such as whether ethics is a subjective luxury or an objective necessity were addressed, and what does Ayn Rand mean by “rational selfishness” and how does it differ from popular notions of selfishness?
They also discussed the role of reason and consciousness in human survival according to Rand, what is the moral purpose of governance in objectivist thought, and why does she consider capitalism to be the moral system of the future?The “Spring Book Club 2026” program had a promising start, and many interesting meetings and discussions are expected in the near future.
